Violin Lessons

Born in Dublin, Ireland and based in New York City, violinist Gregory Harrington is redefining the classical virtuoso for the 21st century. A versatile and internationally acclaimed violinist, he is admired for the expressive lyricism of his playing, beauty of tone, and impeccable musicianship.
A devoted educator , he maintains a teaching studio in New York outside his concert activities. He adopts a teaching philosophy based on 25 years as a soloist on stages around the globe and from the teaching principles of Jascha Heifetz to those of Ivan Galamian. He has 20 years teaching experience ranging from College and University violin students to beginners and lessons (in studio or online) are tailored depending on the needs of each student’s individuality. His principle teachers were Kevin Kiely (Ireland), Marat Bisengaliev (UK), Sally Thomas and the late Erick Friedman (US).
He has performed all over the world as soloist with many orchestras ranging from the San Diego Symphony, Rhode Island Philharmonic, Mexico City Philharmonic, RTE Concert Orchestra and the Janacek Philharmonic under Thomas Wilkins, Robert Houlihan, Mariusz Smolij and Mark Shapiro amongst others and on his travels has presented masterclasses in conservatories and universities from the Conservatorio Nacional in Mexico, Shanghai University , China to Universidade del Norte in Colombia.
As a champion of classical, contemporary and crossover repertoire and noted by critics, Mr. Harrington juxtaposes Bach and Bob Dylan, Beethoven and Leonard Cohen, Radiohead and Johnny Cash to staggering effect. His cross-cultural and wide-reaching appeal has brought him from classical concert halls to performing for Presidents and Vice Presidents, celebrities, heads of state, the United Nations, the NFL and millions of music fans around the globe. In 2006 he founded a record label, Estile Records, having released 4 critically acclaimed albums to date. In late 2020, he will release a recording of Philip Glass’ music with the Janacek Philharmonic and conductor Mark Shapiro. This CD will include his own arrangement of the “Hours Suite” (based on the Oscar nominated score) and the Violin Concerto No. 2 “American Four Seasons”.

He performs on a 2007 Stefan-Peter Greiner violin.
